Former Lagos State University Students Union Speaker who led the great parliament in 2010/2011 administration, Rt. Hon Ibikunle Ganiyu who is also a Lecturer at LASU, Faculty of Education, department of Educational management said “Leadership is not an object of Decoration” during the Colloquy to guide Honourable members.

The program, titled: Roles of Parliamentarians Agents of Change in the 21st Century; from Gown to Town which was held on Wednesday, 30th of May, 2019 at School of Transport, Post Graduate hall.

The ex- Speaker said “As a parliamentarian there are three things to be considered , first thing to do is to be selfless in service ,to think about students’ populace and not that of the Honorable members alone .

He added that, “the Honourable members should be able to Serve the common students who has been humiliated and LASU community as a whole and also to Sacrifice themselves because Leadership is the ability to influence, it is not an object of Decoration but an object to make things happen.

Rt.Hon Ibikunle made distinction between Godfatherism and Mentorship ,he analysed that Godfatherism has to do with putting all trust to a particular individual without considering the Pros and Cons of an advice while Mentorship is having an individual who gives advise and allow one to analysed the Pros and Cons before putting things into consideration .

He opined that ,As a parliamentarians your roles and responsibilities lies in your loyalty to your speaker ,therefore the union should be a catalyst of development and contribution .

An interview with Honourable Bakare Ibrahim Yomi reveals that he is the House Leader of IBA LCDA Legislative Arm. The House Leader representing Okoko Ward B constituency while delivering his lecture exposed the 29th Lagos State University Students’ Union Parliamentary members to challenges after academic and what outside politics (Theory and Practical) looks like.
The House Leader who is an Alumni of the great Citadel of Knowledge, Lagos State University studied Political Science in the university and he also served in different categories including member of Independent Electoral Committee for his department twice. Honourable Bakare Yomi who looks forward to serving as parliamentarian in other categories not limited to Senate emphasized on solving challenges for the betterment of about 20,000 Lasuites.

The 29th LASUSU Speaker Rt.Hon Kuku Mutiu who is the incumbent speaker of the Union SPC said “the programme was organized to sensitize, orientate and motivate the Honourable members on what the parliament entails and what is expected from them as a parliamentarian.

When asked the impact of the program to Lasu community after the programme ,The Speaker said , “The colloquy have paved way for Honourable members at all faculties to make law on behalf of the Union and also promote the goodwill, good reputation and good Image of the Institution .

He opined that ,LASU atmosphere has been peaceful between the School management and Students, this is because the Institution now have reasonable, responsible and Students union that has a solution to a problems.

Also speaking during the Colloquy is Comr.Saheed Oluwadare Tijani member Lagos State youth Parliament, National President (youth challenges international) and also the National secretary to the last Tinubu Youth Summit said ,The union should be an agent of Change and also serve as a watchdog to the executive members.

In attendance was, Rt.Hon Bakare Ibrahim Yomi; Leader of the Legislative Arm Iba LCDA, Hon.Obanla Rahman; Majority Leader of the House Iba,LCDA, Hon.Makinde kazeem,Deputy Chief Whip Iba LCDA.

Also in attendance were invited students Union members from Kwara State University, AOCOED, LASPOTECH, The 28th LASUSU Speaker, The incumbent speaker, The deputy Speaker, Clerk, Under Secretary, Honourable members from all faculties in Lagos State University and other well wishers.
