Government Warns Drivers In Lagos Against Concealed Number Plates And Fake VINs

Hon. Sola Giwa, the special adviser to the Lagos State governor on transportation, has warned vehicle drivers in the state against using illegal and fraudulent vehicle identification numbers (VINs) and the concealment of their number plates.
The Special Adviser made the warning in Lagos on Thursday via a statement signed on his behalf by Taofiq Adebayo, Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA.
He did not forget to mention again the Lagos State Government’s intolerance for these violations, with the inclusion that they also breach traffic laws and pose major security risks to the state.
The former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly talked about the importance of possessing the Lagos State Vehicle Identification Database to be able to track registered vehicles, assist in getting back stolen vehicles, and aid identification.
Hon. Giwa also mentioned the difficult situations that traffic officers and security agencies encounter in tracing vehicles linked to criminal activities due to these unlawful practices.
He appealed to vehicle drivers to obey the law by making sure that their number plates were properly put out, warning that the refusal to comply would lead to immediate arrest and end up in prosecution.
“Failure to comply will result in swift arrest and prosecution.
“The Lagos State Government remains resolute in its commitment to safeguarding lives, ensuring public security, and enforcing strict adherence to the provisions of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018,” he said.
